Taking a Deep Dive into Professional Development Structures

About

In the seventh installment of the Lead for Literacy series, Ursula Hill, Ed.D. from the Lead for Literacy Center discusses critical components of high-quality professional development for effective school-wide reading programs, key considerations for job-embedded learning and coaching, and effective collaboration structures for professional learning. Participants will then have the opportunity to develop a well-articulated professional development plan that incorporates key actions for planning, delivering, and evaluating professional development using data sources. The plan will also guide prioritization of needs and goals, identification of resources, and the consideration of funding streams to provide differentiated new knowledge to support teachers and improve student learning and behavior outcomes.

Participants will:

  • Recognize features of high-quality professional development by highlighting use data and time.
  • Discuss potential obstacles in professional development and considerations to address the obstacles.
  • Identify the strengths and stretches of professional development and coaching practices within your school/district that lead to data-based decision-making.
